Developer Tim Banks, “Summerside is an ideal place to do business”.
SUMMERSIDE – APM is continuing with a busy summer construction season in Summerside as the finishing touches are being completed on the city’s latest development project.
APM announced earlier this year that their development team had reached a deal to bring the Starbucks coffee chain to the Summerside marketplace on North Granville Street, on the former Holland College property. Their construction crews began work on the Northgate Plaza this spring, which will also house the Pita Pit franchise and a national brand retail store whose name will be released within the coming weeks.
Founded in 1971, the Starbucks Coffee Company is now the largest coffeehouse company in the world with stores in over 60 countries. Since opening three new stores in Charlottetown over the past two years, their expansion into the Summerside marketplace is part of their strategic expansion into Canada’s Atlantic Provinces. After the Starbucks deal was signed, John Taylor, franchisee of the Pita Pit in Charlottetown approached APM seeking to expand into Summerside and he grabbed the opportunity to join the same building as Starbucks.
APM CEO Tim Banks says, “These national franchises’ willingness to expand in the City displays strength and confidence in western PEI’s largest municipality. The City of Summerside is an ideal place to do business and is ripe for future opportunities.”
“I’ve been hearing nothing but positive and exciting comments about this project. This is a $1.7 million dollar investment in Summerside; we’re giving residents and visitors the choice to enjoy the world’s best coffee and pitas and we’re also creating jobs and giving the city’s economy a boost. We’re truly pleased to be a part of this. ”
Tim says he is delighted at how his company’s development, design and construction teams can come together on projects like this, “We have a talented group of individuals who can take an opportunity like this and return a finished product for the client in the easiest process possible. We’re hoping to work with the local business community to find lots more opportunities for Summerside.”
Pita Pit opened its doors to the public on August 1st and Starbucks will open on the 2nd.
