CHARLOTTETOWN – APM CEO Tim Banks was honored by his alma mater, Holland College, as he was presented with the “Distinguished Alumni Award” for 2012.
He and two others were recognized by the college as having made exceptional achievements since leaving the college. Mr. Banks got his start in the construction industry after having taken the Architectural Technologist course. Because of that, he says, he is inspired to hire talented Holland College graduates after they receive their diploma.
Banks is often called a true Island entrepreneur. He is the CEO of APM, which has offices in Charlottetown, Halifax, Toronto and Calgary.
Undoubtedly one of P.E.I.'s most well-known success stories, Banks is quick to acknowledge the help he received from the construction technology program at the college.
"(Receiving this award) is kind of humbling," said Banks, explaining that he didn't have a big academic background before attending the college and had to find a sponsor in Harry Snow to attend the school.
"But when I got there, it was a friendly family of people and they had a lot of patience in dealing with me. It was great and today I'm fortunate enough to be able to reward the institute by employing people that are graduates of this school."
Banks has also given a lot back to the school, employing more than 75 graduates and points to many of those graduates as having contributed to APM's talent and reputation world-renowned.
"It's exciting on both ends," said Banks. "I have a big heart for Holland College, they helped me and I'm pleased to give it back."
