Helping out at the IWK

May 31 2009

Confederation Landing was transformed into a family fun center over the weekend as part of the IWK Health Centre Foundation’s Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. This year marked the 25th year of the telethon and Prince Edward Islanders stepped up to contribute over $149,500 to the Foundation.

APM have been raising money for the IWK Telethon year-round through casual wear Friday’s. By providing a donation to the fund in this manner, employees at , Storemark and MacLean’s Construction raised two thousand dollars. Early on in the initiative Tim Banks offered to match any donations achieved by the staff and together APM was very pleased to present to the IWK Telethon for Children a cheque this year in the amount of $4,000. APM is proud to play a role in the support of this very worthwhile cause.

Neila Roberts, an employee of APM’s Storemark manufacturing company, and her son Morgan were present at Confederation Landing and took a break from the activities to make the cheque presentation on behalf of APM to the IWK Telethon for Children. Also on hand at the event were a number of APM staff including Heather Nelson, Heather Joudrie and husband Calvin, Wendy Quinn, Ann-Marie O’Rourke and Phil MacDonald who were busy volunteers on the phones accepting pledges from people all over Prince Edward Island.

The day was an exceptional one with a tremendous community presence at the Landing and the volunteers were high-spirited as they competed for the highest donations and all those who shared stories of those who have benefited from the IWK Children’s Health Centre. Challenges came in to get others pledging, people called for information on how to get their donations in, and other donors shared their tears of appreciation as they called in their pledges.

Established in 1996, the IWK Health Centre Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to helping the IWK provide the best care possible to Maritime families by raising funds to the Health Centre.

We’d like to thank everyone, partners, donors, patients and caregivers, who have made the 25th anniversary of telethon such a great success.”

Donations made through this year’s telethon will help purchase priority medical equipment, fund ground breaking research and support special programs like bilingual services.
