Credit Union gets under way in Stratford

May 3 2001

Stratford -- APM and the Metro Credit Union today announced the awarding of the tender for a new full service Credit Union branch at the corner of the Kinlock Road and the Trans Canada Highway in Stratford.

Gill Construction Ltd. of Vernon River won the bidding process and will act as General Contractor for the project.

"Business activity in Stratford continues to expand," said Brian Gillis, Vice-President of Business Development for APM. "With the awarding of contracts and sub-contracts for this project, the economic impact of the expansion of services and tax base in Stratford will be obvious."

The facility will be a full service Metro Credit Union Branch featuring the full range of banking and financial services to which Credit Union members are accustomed, including the familiar Credit Union drive-thru automated teller. David Burt, General Manager of the Metro Credit Union, indicated that at least 5-7 new positions will be created at the new branch.

"The opening of a branch in Stratford makes good business sense for us and our members," Mr. Burt said. "The people of this community were expressing a need for banking services here. As a community-based organization, we felt it was important to respond to this. We are very excited about opening a branch in Stratford."

Mr. Gillis added, "This kind of economic activity is good for Stratford and good for the Island economy. Getting through government red tape is sometimes difficult, but at the end of the day, we have a project to be proud of. There will be more developments to come in Stratford and other Island communities."

APM is a vertically integrated development company offering design, project management, construction, building supplies, store fixtures, ornamental metals, signage, retail décor and property leasing throughout Canada.
The Metro Credit Union branch in Stratford is scheduled to open in August, 2001.
