APM completes $26 million dollar Queen Elizabeth Hospital Expansion

CHARLOTTETOWN – APM’S single largest project to date, the new Ambulatory Care Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital was officially opened on August 16, 2012.

The QEH Ambulatory Care Centre project involved a major building addition, and renovation, to facilitate the relocation and upgrade of several key hospital departments. The $26,000,000 project included an 85,000 square foot addition located at the existing main entry of the hospital.

The addition will provide a broad range of family-centered health services to patients of all ages through schedule appointments. Services include: cardio-respiratory care, patient preparation/recovery services, surgical procedures, and various clinics such as orthopedic, pain management, plastics, and urology.

APM Vice President of Engineering Services Ian Harper explains the exceptional effort put forth by APM.

“We understood the importance of this project and how each and every Islander would be affected by it. We worked closely with the provincial government and the QEH officials to maintain access to the hospital during renovations so patient services were not disrupted.”

Harper acknowledges the team effort which made this project a success.

“The Provincial Government, the Department of Infrastructure and Renewal, the QEH consulting team, and the trade contractors allowed APM to deliver on this signature project.”

APM CEO Tim Banks expects APM will complete similar projects in the future.

“This was a positive and exciting experience for us. Without a doubt, APM is capable of many more specialized health care projects in the years ahead.”

In addition to the ambulatory care centre, the addition also included an impressive new lobby for Prince Edward Island’s largest hospital.
