APM Employee to perform at Old Home Week

Aug 6 2003

Ninth Hour, one of eastern Canada's most popular Christian music groups, will be playing at the outdoor grandstand at Old Home Week Sunday at 6 p.m. Started five years ago by brothers Dean and Chris MacKinnon and friend Kenny Vail, Ninth Hour write and perform their own brand of contemporary Christian music.

The band has since been joined by rhythm guitarist Matt Anderson and drummer Ron Atkinson. Over the past five years, the group has changed from a low key, acoustic trio to an all out pop/rock group. In 1999, Ninth Hour won Star Track P.E.I. That same year, they entered an international competition where they were chosen from over 600 participants as one of the top five unsigned Christian bands.

This band has broken ground with their singles When All is Said and Done, Reach and That's My Department, achieving a very high radio rating for an independent Christian band on secular radio. Its first CD Creator receives air play in Christian stations throughout the Maritimes and in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

In 2001, Ninth Hour won a showcase for the East Coast Music awards and were nominated for best gospel group of the year, Later that year, they won best rock/pop/ alternative group of the year at the P.E.I. Music awards and again in 2002 won best gospel group of the year.

They have a solid fan base in the Maritimes and have played in all three provinces at youth conferences, churches and community events.

This year saw the release of This and they currently have their first single from that album Groove, Dance, Move in regular rotation on Island radio stations. All 11 songs on the CD are original and bridge musical tastes from heavy rock to ballads.
