APM RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ‘GREEN GLOBES’
CERTIFICATION
October 12, 2011
CHARLOTTETOWN – APM has received a prestigious “Three
Green Globes” certification for their Design-Build work done at the new
BioCommons Manufacturing Centre. The building, awarded to APM after a
public tendering process, is the first Green Globes Certified building
on PEI.
The Green Globes rating system is a revolutionary
building environmental design and management achievement. It delivers an
assessment protocol, rating system and guidance for green building
design, operation and management. It provides market recognition of a
building’s environmental attributes through third-party verification.
CEO Tim Banks is pleased to be recognized as a leader in
sustainability on PEI.
“APM’s focus on green building has existed
for some time, but it is nice to receive formal recognition for our
efforts,” said Mr. Banks. “Green building is no doubt the way of the
future and at APM we make sure to give our clients as many options as
possible when it comes to sustainable and environmentally friendly
planning.”
Recently, APM hired Adam Jay, a graduate of University
of New Brunswick’s Masters in Mechanical Engineering program focusing on
ecologically friendly building. He is LEED accredited and has taken on
the position of “Green Team Leader” at APM.
“APM is proud to be
leading and accelerating the transformation to high-performing, healthy
green buildings across Canada. Certification of the BioCommons
Manufacturing Centre through the Green Globes program was a great
experience and we are pleased with our ‘Three Green Globes’ result,”
says Mr. Jay.
Mr. Banks points out that APM practices what they
preach. Their headquarters, APM MacLean, has a number of
ecologically-friendly additions including solar assisted hot water, low
flow fixtures, LED morality lighting and more. On top of that, APM
employs a number of LEED accredited engineers to encourage further
expansion of the company into this field.
“APM sees the benefits
of sustainable building,” says Mr. Banks. “Not just for the environment,
but also in long-term cost savings. That is why environmentally aware
construction is the way of the future, and APM will invest our resources
to make sure that we remain a leader in this field.”
