Central Truss and Wall Systems officially opens its doors at business park.

Cornwall - Most new companies kick off their grand openings with the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon.

In the wood manufacturing business, however, it's called the sawing of the lumber.

Mayor Jack Kelly of Cornwall did the honour's this past Friday to officially open Central Truss and Wall Systems, located in the Cornwall Business Park on the Trans-Canada highway.

This newly constructed 14,000 square foot state of the art facility has 12 full-time employees dedicated to manufacturing roof and floor trusses, together with panelized wall systems. The company has installed some of the most technically advanced computer and laser-enabled truss manufacturing equipment on Prince Edward Island, says a press release announcing the official opening.

"Central Truss will draw on the construction expertise and existing business networks to service the entire Atlantic region," says co-owner Joe Corcoran. "Our central location here in Cornwall, and the efficiency of our operation, will play a key role in securing clients for Central Truss and Wall Systems."

Corcoran said his firm has had great support from PEI Business Development, ACOA and the Town of Cornwall.

"We look forward to giving them back our support by providing jobs and investment in the community," he said.

Central Truss is owned by Corcoran, Wayne Buote and APM.

Location of the business within the Cornwall Business Park, no co-owned by both the Town of Cornwall and APM, was influenced by the town's low property tax rate, availability of serviced land and access to skilled labour within the town.

"Central Truss will assist the community of Cornwall in its efforts to flourish as a centre of business excellence in Prince Edward Island," he said.
