APM Construction awarded tender for Arts Centre

Jul 7 2010

The construction contract for the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts has been awarded to APM Construction Service Inc. for a total price of $13,060,704.00 plus taxes. North Battleford City Council unanimously approved the bid during a Special Meeting of Council this afternoon. Inc. submitted the lowest bid out of a total of 9 companies to submit tenders. 8 companies were within a range of 10%.

“The successful company is based in Charlottetown, PEI,” said Stuart York, Director of Parks and Recreation. “This tender covers the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, the common areas between all four components and the parking areas for the CU Plex.”

As the general contractor, APM Construction Service Inc. plans to hire a number of Saskatchewan sub-contractors. It is anticipated that on site mobilization will begin as soon as possible with an expected completion by December 31st, 2011.

The awarded tender is approximately 9.8% over estimates compiled in November of 2009. The City investigated potential cost saving initiatives with the 3 lowest bidders, however, the consensus was that cost savings could not be achieved.

The Dekker Centre for The Performing Arts is the first of four phases in the Credit Union CU Plex Project. The CU Plex will also include a Fieldhouse, Curling Rink and Aquatic Centre. Aquatic Centre specifications have been issued and tenders will close within the next two weeks.
