APM presents bursary for
continued education and literacy
Dec 1, 2011
CHARLOTTETOWN
– APM, in partnership with the PEI Literacy Alliance, has awarded a
bursary to Richard W. Cudmore for continuing his education at Holland
College. APM donates annually to the PEI Literacy Alliance and takes
part in the PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy in June of every year.
This bursary is one of ten awarded annually by the
Literacy Alliance. The award is presented to an adult who has struggled
with reading and is continuing their education at UPEI or Holland
College. Mr. Cudmore is using his bursary to complete his GED, which he
hopes to use as a stepping stone to further education.
APM focuses its sponsorship toward empowering
those seeking to further their education. According to Business
Development Manager Jerry LeBlanc, few things are as important as
encouraging literacy and education on PEI.
“Literacy is an issue that touches all Island
communities,” said Mr. LeBlanc. “APM is doing its part to create a
brighter future for adults and youth who struggle with learning to
read.”
Mr. LeBlanc presented the bursary with the
Literacy Alliance’s Norm Finlayson. Mr. LeBlanc says that illiteracy is an
issue that we must work together to eradicate.
“We have enjoyed our partnership with the Literacy
Alliance and we commend them for their important work. We’ve been proud
donors over the past few years and we look forward to continuing to work
with this group to improve literacy on PEI.”
