Vision for former Kays Building finalized

CHARLOTTETOWN – APM released the final renderings for the former Kays Building along with the concept for the neighbouring SCI Building. The renderings show a detailed vision of what the completed $6.5 million project will look like; the ground floor will be available for retail businesses to lease or buy as a retail condo. The top three levels will also be available to interested businesses looking for office space to lease or buy their own unit outright.

APM took possession of the building in mid-June. APM’s V.P. of Engineering Ian Harper explains the progress of the project thus far.

“The building has been enclosed with staging to minimize the dust as MacLean Construction crews continue to work on repointing and repairing the exterior brick work and the stabilization of the interior structure of the building.” Harper says that a “partial demolition of the current SCI building is expected to start within the next week.”

APM continues to work closely with the Charlottetown Heritage Review Board as this project continues. Harper met with the committee’s board members today at noon to give them an update of the restoration project as APM works around maintaining the historical integrity of the building.

APM has launched a Marketing Program to solicit potential tenants for the space which will be renamed the Welsh-Owen Building, reflecting the prominent business leaders who built the structure in 1872. Harper says that the building should be ready for occupancy by July of next year.
