John Yeo Drive unveiled at Royalty Power Centre

Oct 3 2012

CHARLOTTETOWN - APM CEO Tim Banks alongside Mayor Clifford Lee and members of John Yeo’s family were on hand for the naming of John Yeo Drive Wednesday morning. John Yeo Drive is located at the Royalty Power Centre on the corner of Highway 2 across from Sears and beside the site of the region’s newest Kent Building Supplies Store.

John Yeo passed away in late August after a battle with cancer. He was 49. He was considered an ambassador for Charlottetown and one of its best-loved citizens. For 35 years, his demeanour and friendly waves were welcome in Charlottetown.

Tim Banks is the developer of the Royalty Power Centre. He proposed that the street be named after Yeo. Banks said a few words at the unveiling.

“Our sympathies go out to John’s parents, Jeanette and Kenneth and his sister, Kendra. We’re hoping that by naming this street after him that people will remember John’s kindness, sincerity, but most importantly, how he was always smiling.”

Banks says, “We’re expecting a lot of development here so John’s legacy will live on at John Yeo Drive. I thank the City of Charlottetown for their support in this endeavor.”

Mayor Lee also thanked APM and Banks for proposing the idea of John Yeo Drive.

“John was one of Charlottetown’s most famous residents and a true ambassador for the city. I think this is a great idea and thank APM and Tim for coming forward with this. We’re glad to lend our support.”
