APM completes $19 million dollar new Prince Edward Home

Oct 23 2013

CHARLOTTETOWN – APM’s Construction Management team will show off its work at the grand opening of the new Prince Edward Home on 75 Maypoint Road on Thursday, October 24th. The Grand Opening will be open to the public from 11 am to 1 pm that day.

The new PE home is replacing the 80-year-old institution adjacent to Victoria Park. The $19 million dollar facility will be used for residents who need palliative, convalescent or respite care as well as long-term care for seniors and Islanders who have chronic disabilities.

APM Vice President of Engineering Ian Harper and his team worked closely with the Provincial Government, BGHJ Architects and a team of skilled Trade Contractors to deliver this signature project.

“As people enter the grounds they should appreciate the effort made to create a comfortable and livable experience for residents, staff and the general public. The site features a good balance between functional parking and green space that fits well with the surrounding properties. Closer to the building there is an inviting drop off area and thoughtful plazas and courtyards with special attention to landscaping.

The interior of the building was designed and built to provide a warm “like home” atmosphere with higher end residential finishes. The layout of the building has been divided into 12 households, each with private resident rooms and washrooms. Each household features a centralized kitchen, living room and dining area. Residents will have the opportunity for privacy; but will also have access to common space for recreation, socialization as well as having visitors.”

The central core that links the households contains activity areas, a chapel, beauty salon, nutritional services kitchen, laundry facilities and space for dental care and rehabilitation treatment. Many Islanders will benefit from these new state of the art health, recreation, occupational and physiotherapy services.

APM is proud to have had this opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in delivering complex, high quality institutional construction projects. For more information on their services, including construction management, please visit their website at apm.ca.
